Idag dök det upp en video på den officiella Spotifyklienten för iPhone (läs mer på TechCrunch, Music ally eller Mashable), detta utan att Spotify ännu fått den godkänd i AppStore av Apple.

Detta är ett ganska intressant exempel då ett företag som Spotify, fortfarande ungt men med ett otroligt starkt varumärke, sätter sig upp och utmanar Apple. Apple kan nu välja mellan två vägar:

  • Neka Spotify inträde i AppStore (vilket egentligen vore naturligt dÃ¥ det är en direkt konkurrent till Apples eget iTunes). DÃ¥ Spotify har en sÃ¥ pass stor fanbase som det faktiskt har skulle detta dock skada Apple$ anseende ansenligt, vore det värt att tappa sÃ¥ mycket trovärdighet för att försvara sina iTunesintäkter?
  • Acceptera att de inte kan göra mycket annat och släppa in Spotify i AppStore trots de konsekvenser det förmodligen fÃ¥r för iTunes.

Mest troligt är dock att Apple väljer en tredje väg, de släpper in Spotify efter att ha släpat på godkännandet så länge som möjligt och lanserar sedan så snart de kan en snarlik streamingtjänst i iTunes. Med iTunes distribution skulle en sådan tjänst snabbt etablera en stark position.

Nu skriver Spotify själva på sin blogg om applikationen. Lite intressant formulerar de sig såhär:

“[…] we’ve finally completed work on the Spotify app for the iPhone and sent it over to the nice people at Apple.”

Nu får vi helt enkelt vänta och se!

    Varför skulle inte Apple godkänna Spotify?

    Om Apple tjurar har de ofta ett gott skäl. Men Apple tror inte på att lägga krokben för andra utan givetvis kan du lägga din Spotify-ikon där iPod-ikonen nu finns etc, vilket aldrig Microsoft eller andra godkänt.

    Glöm inte att Apple är ett hårdvaruföretag.

    @Claes, du har helt rätt i att Apple är ett hårdvaruföretag, och det är just därför det här är så intressant. Ipoden har trots allt vuxit till att bli en riktig kassako för Apple.

    Det är nog vanskligt att bortse frÃ¥n symbiosen mellan ITunes och iPod, det slutna systemet är en av de viktigaste faktorerna i ipodförsäljningen! Om man släpper in spotify i iPhone växer de sig starkare och blir ett ännu större hot mot desktop iTunes pÃ¥ sikt. Strategiskt är det nog vanskligt att släppa in spotify, pr-mässigt är det nog dock en god idé…
